Stories of Independence
We believe every individual has the right to live their life to the fullest. These stories highlight the progress, joy, and independence achieved through person-centered DODD waiver support.
A Home of One's Own
For years, Marcus dreamed of having his own space. Through the Individualized Service Plan (ISP) process and Sulandra's Homemaker/Personal Care (HPC) services, Marcus successfully transitioned from a family home to his own apartment. Our team provides the "behind-the-scenes" support he needs—like budgeting for rent and organizing his kitchen—while Marcus enjoys the pride of having his own front door key.
"I never thought I could do this, but Sulandra showed me I just needed the right tools. I love my new home."
— Marcus, Resident
Connecting Through Volunteering
Belonging means being an active part of the neighborhood. Using Sulandra's non-medical transportation and community integration support, Elena began volunteering at the local animal shelter. This wasn't just about a task; it was about building relationships. Today, Elena is a well-known face at the shelter, fostering social connections that have significantly boosted her confidence and happiness.
"Elena doesn't just 'attend' events anymore—she's a leader in her community. Seeing her confidence grow has been the greatest gift."
— Elena's Guardian
Supporting the Whole Family
The Miller family provides constant care for their son, Leo. When they needed to travel for a family emergency, they turned to Sulandra for respite care. Our trained staff stepped in seamlessly, following Leo’s routine perfectly. For the Millers, the "quality" wasn't just in the care Leo received, but in the peace of mind they felt knowing he was safe and happy while they were away.
Mastering the Kitchen
Independence often starts in the kitchen. James wanted to learn how to cook healthy meals instead of relying on pre-packaged food. Our HPC staff worked with James to create a visual recipe book and practiced safety skills on the stove. Six months later, James is cooking three nights a week and has even started a small "cooking club" with his roommates.
"James is so proud when he invites us over for dinner. Sulandra didn't just cook for him; they taught him a skill for life."
— Case Manager
